What Led Me to Writing?
For as long as I can remember, I have very much had an affinity for writing, especially inspirational meanings and quotes. When I was in high school, I took a literature class. One of the assignments was to write a paper where we could be our own Rip Van Winkle. We got to pretend we had been asleep for 20 years and to describe what things looked like when we woke up. I chose my bedroom and found appreciation in having to use creative thinking to paint a picture with words. I scored well, and from then on it was off to the races. Throughout my earlier years, I found myself reading about all things inspirational, and overall “life meaning”, as well as doing much writing of my own. It has been said that you become what you think about, and I was fortunate to learn the benefits of this at an early age.
Fast forward a few years and it’s the early 1990’s. I started my company and found myself working diligently to build relationships with people and understanding how to add value to their lives. I came to realize that in talking with people about money and finances, it is not only data driven but also emotional. I also learned that if you approach things from both sides and capture not only the numbers but also what they mean to us, there is an opportunity for greater success. So, after much thought and planning, I started to develop what was to become this newsletter, the envisionary. While in the early stages, it was only four pages, and filled with clip art, from the very beginning it has been a combination of financial information as well as thoughtprovoking and inspirational guidance. Personally, it allows my passion for writing to be combined with the opportunity to hopefully make a difference in the lives of those that mean much to us.
As I continued my career path as well as my writing journey, certain life events presented themselves, nudging me to write my first book, On the Back Burner. In many ways, it was a culmination of all things coming together in my life as they related to both personal and professional, and it was an interesting lesson in patience and timing. It was not only my thoughts in the present moment, but a culmination and report of what I felt was my best inspirational writing along the way. I’m grateful for that experience, as it was one of the greatest and most rewarding challenges of my life.
And here we are today. With over thirty years of official published writing, I have never been more excited than now to share my thoughts, experiences and understanding of the world as I see it, so to speak. Into the future, you will be seeing much more coming from us as it relates to how we think about money, what the future of our industry will look like, and a deeper level of understanding in how money is not only financial, but also emotional, intellectual, and spiritual.
I believe we are at an interesting time in human civilization. Not the best or the worst, or this or that, as we often see and hear; but interesting. More to come on this as well. Let me ask; How does your current view of the world relate to the way you live your life? What makes this time unique? And how does this come into play in your understanding of money and the way it works in your life? Give it some thought, and let’s talk about it. For real.
So, what led me to writing? Oh, I don’t know. I guess the best way to say it would be... divine guidance wrapped in life purpose. And I’m grateful.
