Q&A With the Author

Where did you get the idea for this book?

After spending many years talking with people about what is most important to them, I found that there are certain conversations that are very difficult to talk about in this world. With this in mind, the big spark came after spending time in Haiti, one of the poorest countries in the world, and adopting two children from there. The experience caused me to ask myself some serious questions; what was important, what I valued, etc. I realized that the same things going in the lives of my clients were going on in my own life.

Why did you write the book?

Because I believe we are missing out on some of the main reasons we are here in this world. We spend lots of time talking about how things are, but not much time talking about why they are.

What is your book about?

Igniting conversations about who we are as people, and what we want our present moments to look like. It is about uncovering the things we say are most important to us, but have placed on the back burner of our lives. From how we think about money, what we want our legacy to be after we are gone, talking with aging parents about their wishes, to how we serve humanity, it is a call to align the values we espouse with the values that we live.

Why should someone want to read your book in particular?

This book is a roadmap of life lessons which challenges you to be the best person you can be. It is designed to be a thought-provoking conversation starter, asking the reader to ponder some of the tough yet truly meaningful questions we are all encounter throughout our lives.

Why is your book relevant?

It addresses many of the things we know are important in this world and encourages us to think about them in a meaningful way. It is both inspirational and tactical, providing a trail to follow, but at the same time, meets you right where you are on the path you are on.

You cover many traditionally sensitive topics in your book. Things like health, faith, and politics. What was your goal with all this?

My intention was not to pick certain topics, especially sensitive ones, and build a book around them. It was to take a serious look at the things which prevent us from living life to the fullest. After all, what’s worse, struggling to find meaning in our lives, or not talking about it?
